Committed to Service in a Time of Disaster

In the blink of an eye, natural disasters Hurricane Florence and Typhoon Mangkhut left hundreds of thousands of people without shelter, power, or access to life’s basic necessities. Xylem’s “Vision & Values” clearly calls out a global responsibility to “…respond with water solutions when disaster strikes…” through our signature citizenship program Xylem Watermark. In efforts to uphold this promise, we are mobilizing to help support overall recovery efforts in both regions.

Here are a few ways Xylem is lending a hand:

  • We redeployed dewatering pumps and other critical equipment across North America in advance of the storm.  

  • Crisis response is being coordinated out of our Garner, NC location, and our local teams are working with customers, business partners and local officials to secure resources needed for recovery efforts.

  • We are contributing to Mercy Corps’ emergency response efforts in the U.S. through Xylem Watermark. We’re also supporting the efforts of Team Rubicon, a non-profit that unites the skills of military veterans and first responders and is working to provide relief items like lanterns and solar chargers, food and water to those in greatest need of aid.

  • Local teams in the Philippines and China are working to assess the damage, much of which in the Philippines is in remote areas with limited communications capabilities during the crisis, and understand how best we can deploy our resources to support the extensive recovery efforts that will be needed in the weeks and months ahead.

  • In the Philippines, we’re coordinating with the Red Cross and government authorities to offer our support in a number of ways, including equipment and technical expertise. Through Watermark, we’re also working with the Red Cross and Planet Water to assess how we can best support relief and recovery efforts.

In addition to the efforts mentioned above, Xylem is also matching all employee contributions to emergency relief efforts for both natural disasters through September 30, and is continuing to identify additional opportunities to assist through working with nonprofit organizations.
